2nd reading: 104....WTF!!!!
So, I left right away and planned to take him over to his regular physician (Dr. Carl Lindgren @ Healthy Future Pediatrics...can't say enough great things about this office), however when I called them at about 5:15 they said they didn't have any slots left in the schedule...understandable, and recommended I take him to an urgent care. So, I exited at Sleater- kinney heading for the pacific walk in clinic/urgent care and while I was sitting waiting to turn behind about 10 cars, Nixon passes out! I had to shake him and yell his name to wake him up! Then, he does it again.
Now I'm panicking. Extra high fever, passing out, and he does have asthma....so I'm thinking, SHIT! How, do I get around these cars!!!!! Can't. So, I wake him up again, and explain that he has to stay awake, and in his saddest voice he says..." I can't mom ". Pitiful.
He did stay awake though, and I went straight to St. Pete's (Ick), and upon arrival they gave him Motrin and his fever went down to about 102 within 30 minutes. Since his fever was down and he was no longer very lethargic, we waited for 3 hours before seeing a Doctor.
I wanted to just leave since the fever was down to regular now (2 hrs into our wait, he was back to 99 degrees), however, the triage nurse really suggested that we wait and see a doc due the passing out issue.
Long story I know.
Diagnosis by creepy/old/weird ER doc: probable virus coming on.
Instructions: Rotate Motrin/Tylenol to keep fever at bay
Medication given in ER: Apple Juice.
So glad we waited 3 hours for that great medical advice.
So...left ER, Came home (after stopping at DQ for ice cream of course), and Nixon was tired but ok for the next hour...then fell asleep, and temp rose to 103 again. Tried to give medicine but he was so tired we had a really difficult time getting him to actually swallow any of it...did get some in though, because fever came down. Oh, and when we were trying to wake him up for the meds, he was shaking so hard that his teeth were chattering uncontrollably! He was burning up, but felt freezing. Poor little guy.
This morning: fever back up to 104, (yes I have invested in a good/accurate thermometer). Motrin given, fever down to 100 in about an hour. Played in pool for 10 minutes, came in for lunch, fever back up to 101, Tylenol given....then he fell asleep eating pretzels sitting in my lap and didn't move an inch as I layed him down (unlike Nixon if you know him).
Now your up to speed, and I feel like I could use some speed...very exhausted. Just kidding about the speed, I certainly don't take illegal substances.
Ahhhhh.
