Slumber Party

Nixon had his first official sleepover last night. Cousin Shaylie, and bestest friends Kylie and Quincie all came over yesterday afternoon, and we did it up. Oh yeah. We had pizza & root beer for dinner, hit up the local carnival (yard birds parking lot in Chehalis...can you really call it a carnival? Probably not, but we did.) We roasted marshmallows and made smores, (mostly burned up marshmallows and rubbed them all over the fire pit/deck) watched a movie together, and this morning we had Reese's peanut butter cup chip pancakes with syrup and whip cream.

Tell me that's not the slumber party of your dreams. The 3 girls were all very well behaved, listened well, and even picked up after themselves. Now, my child on the other hand was....politely...a monster. Poor little guy was insanely jealous of Norm spending time making other kids laugh, and he was angry! Lots of hitting, kicking, slapping, hair pulling, and crying. I'm not kidding.

In the car, I obviously made a mistake by putting Nixon and Quincie next to each other, because Nixon wouldn't leave her alone. After about ten miles of Nixon hitting/kicking/pinching her to no end...and Quincie crying and yelling at him for torturing her...I decided to try something new. You may choose to skip this next paragraph if you don't agree with mom's who use unusual forms of punishment.

I pulled over, off the freeway, down a little road. I got Nixon out of the car, and had a very calm discussion with him about being nice to his friends, and not being so mean. He didn't respond well, slapping me a bit, and scratching my neck. So, I calmly told him that I was going to leave him there, on the side of the road if he didn't apologize immediately. He didn't. I sat him down, and walked away...saying "bye Nixon, I guess we'll just see ya later....I don't know what your gonna do here all day by yourself...."
He Fa-REAKED out. Sobbing, hard, almost enough to really make me regret doing it. But, once back in the car, it was a nice easy ride! Was it the right decision? Possibly not, but...it did work.

P.s....While I was strapping him back in his car seat, I told him quietly that I would never leave him really. And I obviously never would have. Don't call CPS, I'm a good mom.

End of story, good slumber party overall....we'll maybe do it again in 5 or 6 years.

John & Kate Plus Eight.

ODE TO THE SEGMENT 'REALLY' BY Seth Meyer & Amy Poehler OF SNL.

Really?

Really Jon & Kate?

You really don't have enough dough to just surrender the whole TV gig?

And Really, Jon, you really didn't cheat on Kate? Really.

And Kate, really? Your only motivation for being a globe trotting, book writing, reality TV star is to put your kids through college? Really? Or maybe...are you possibly motivated by the free gear your constantly gathering (IE: tummy tuck/hair plugs for your soon to be ex hubby/tans)?

Really. You really don't have a public comment to make at this time because 'it's private'...really?

Did anyone tell you when you signed up for season five of your hit reality show that people may want to follow your every move good or bad? Really, you didn't know? You hadn't heard of media coverage? Really? Really.

Wow.

Little Sicky (LONG POST)

So, yesterday I picked up Nixon from daycare @ the regular 4:45 time of day. I knocked on the door and he came running and yelling "my mom's here Val" like usual. However, when I walked in and picked him up I could immediately feel that he was quite literally burning up. I asked Val (his daycare lady/FABULOUS woman) for her thermometer and took an underarm temp twice. 1st reading: 103.7
2nd reading: 104....WTF!!!!

So, I left right away and planned to take him over to his regular physician (Dr. Carl Lindgren @ Healthy Future Pediatrics...can't say enough great things about this office), however when I called them at about 5:15 they said they didn't have any slots left in the schedule...understandable, and recommended I take him to an urgent care. So, I exited at Sleater- kinney heading for the pacific walk in clinic/urgent care and while I was sitting waiting to turn behind about 10 cars, Nixon passes out! I had to shake him and yell his name to wake him up! Then, he does it again.

Now I'm panicking. Extra high fever, passing out, and he does have asthma....so I'm thinking, SHIT! How, do I get around these cars!!!!! Can't. So, I wake him up again, and explain that he has to stay awake, and in his saddest voice he says..." I can't mom ". Pitiful.

He did stay awake though, and I went straight to St. Pete's (Ick), and upon arrival they gave him Motrin and his fever went down to about 102 within 30 minutes. Since his fever was down and he was no longer very lethargic, we waited for 3 hours before seeing a Doctor.

I wanted to just leave since the fever was down to regular now (2 hrs into our wait, he was back to 99 degrees), however, the triage nurse really suggested that we wait and see a doc due the passing out issue.

Long story I know.
Diagnosis by creepy/old/weird ER doc: probable virus coming on.
Instructions: Rotate Motrin/Tylenol to keep fever at bay
Medication given in ER: Apple Juice.

So glad we waited 3 hours for that great medical advice.

So...left ER, Came home (after stopping at DQ for ice cream of course), and Nixon was tired but ok for the next hour...then fell asleep, and temp rose to 103 again. Tried to give medicine but he was so tired we had a really difficult time getting him to actually swallow any of it...did get some in though, because fever came down. Oh, and when we were trying to wake him up for the meds, he was shaking so hard that his teeth were chattering uncontrollably! He was burning up, but felt freezing. Poor little guy.

This morning: fever back up to 104, (yes I have invested in a good/accurate thermometer). Motrin given, fever down to 100 in about an hour. Played in pool for 10 minutes, came in for lunch, fever back up to 101, Tylenol given....then he fell asleep eating pretzels sitting in my lap and didn't move an inch as I layed him down (unlike Nixon if you know him).

Now your up to speed, and I feel like I could use some speed...very exhausted. Just kidding about the speed, I certainly don't take illegal substances.

Ahhhhh.
